Racism is a form of discrimination and prejudice based on the belief that one's race or ethnicity is superior or inferior to another. Racism can manifest in various ways, such as through verbal abuse, physical violence, social exclusion, economic exploitation, or institutional policies and practices that disadvantage certain groups.

Racism is not a new phenomenon but has taken on new forms and expressions in recent years. Some of the factors that have contributed to the rise and intensification of racism include:

- The global COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately affected people of color and exposed many societies' deep-rooted health and economic inequalities. Some racist groups have also used the pandemic as an opportunity to spread misinformation and scapegoat specific communities, such as Asians, for the spread of the virus.

- The increased migration and displacement of people due to conflicts, climate change, and human rights violations. Many migrants and refugees face hostility and discrimination in their host countries, where they are often seen as a threat to their national identity, culture, or security. Some racist groups have also exploited the fears and anxieties of the local population to incite hatred and violence against newcomers.

- The rise of populism and nationalism in many parts of the world which have challenged the values of multiculturalism, diversity, and human rights. Some populist and nationalist leaders have used divisive rhetoric and policies to appeal to their supporters, often by demonizing and marginalizing minority groups. Some racist groups have also found allies and platforms in these political movements, legitimizing and normalizing their views and actions.

- The proliferation of social media and digital technologies has enabled the rapid and widespread dissemination of racist messages and propaganda. Some racist groups have also used these tools to recruit, organize, and mobilize their followers and harass and intimidate their targets. Social media and digital technologies have also created echo chambers and filter bubbles, exposing people to information that confirms their biases and prejudices.

These recent events and trends have shown that racism is alive and growing and becoming more violent and divisive. Racism poses a severe threat to the dignity, rights, and well-being of millions of people around the world. Racism also undermines our societies' social cohesion, peace, and stability. Racism is not inevitable or natural but a product of human choices and actions. Therefore, we all have a responsibility to challenge racism in all its forms and manifestations and to promote a culture of respect, tolerance, and solidarity among all people.
